The Royal Palace of Madrid is a building defined by its immense scale. With a floor area of 135,000 square meters (1,450,000 sq ft) and 3,418 rooms, it is the largest functioning royal palace in Europe, dwarfing both Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Versailles.
